Groundhog Day: Free Resources, Craft Ideas, Books, and Free Activities

For many of you I'm sure you are hoping that Punxutawney Phil won't see his shadow this year and spring will be early. Did you know that he is only correct 37% of the time? I have put together some wonderful free resources for your Groundhog Day activities and fun books for Shared Reading. Of course I have a special free activity for all of my followers and viewers.

How about some lesson plans from The Punxutawney Groundhog Club Website? You may have to do a little bit of searching as the link doesn't take you directly there. Just click on the picture below. Then go up to the top and click on TEACHERS. Then you click on the grade level you are looking for.
What's your favorite book to read for Groundhog Day? I like the one below. Find a complete list of great books for your Shared Reading by clicking on the picture below.
Looking for some some cute craft ideas? I found this one and lots of others at dltk. Just click on the picture below to find this one and several others. You will also find a cute mini book and other free activities.
I really liked this Triangle Shaped Groundhog, especially if you are working on Shapes in Math. You can find the directions for making it by clicking on the picture below.
For the Pre-K-K Teachers I found this great Free Groundhog Day Unit. Just click on the picture below.
You can find more free resources at apples4theteacher

I finally revised one of my favorite units: Groovy Groundhogs.
You will find 2 original Shared Reading Books, 3 Differentiated Emergent Readers and Comprehension Activities, 2 Differentiated Reading Texts about Groundhogs, Woodland Animal Report Writing, and other Writing and Literacy Activities.
You can see sample pages of all the reading, writing, and literacy activities in this packet by clicking on the image above and downloading the Preview file.
I made a fun Freebie packet that you can use as a literacy activity with this unit or separately.
Students will look at 6 pictures/word cards. Then they will read 6 clues and write the word that matches the clue. Just click on the the picture above or below to download your freebie.

Thanks for all you do to make a difference for your students. Here's hoping that Phil predicts that spring will be early this year.
