All About Penguins: Free Resources, Free Activities, Books, and Videos

Everyone loves Penguins. Winter is the perfect time to learn about them. Although when we hear the word, "penguin" everyone thinks of Antarctica but not all penguins live in Antarctica or in cold places. Did you know that there are 17 species of penguins? They all live in the southern hemisphere. They live in groups called colonies but there is only one species of penguins that likes to live alone. It is the Yellow-Eyed Penguin that lives in New Zealand. While doing research for my newest product, "All About Penguins" I came across some great free resources to share with all of you.

Let's start with some wonderful books about Penguins. You can find a list and summary of 20 books by clicking on the image below.
I also found 10 penguin videos for your students that you can access by clicking on the image below.
You will find lots of great free resources, activities, crafts, and books for lots of different grade levels at Scholastic. You can access them by clicking on the image below:
You can also find lots of free Penguin facts and fun activities at Kidzone by clicking on the image below.
I just uploaded my "All About Penguins" packet today that is for Grades 2-3. There are a variety of reading activities starting with a general overview about penguins that is differentiated at the 2nd and 3rd grade levels. There are also Penguin Fact cards about 8 different species of penguins for students to read and then write about the one they think is the most interesting.
Student will then match Penguin Pictures and Fact cards about the 8 different species. Students will engage in several writing activities such as Comparing and Contrasting 2 different Penguin Species, Opinion Piece Writing Prompts, and A Penguin Report about one of 8 other penguin species. You can see these activities in each of the two images below.
There are literacy activities such as Writing Adjectives about Penguins and determining Facts and Opinions, and Poetry Activities.
To read the complete description and download the Preview file to see sample pages of all the materials and activities in this packet just click on the image below.

I hope you find some good resources to use with your students this winter.
Thanks for all you do to make a difference for your students.

  4. Thanks so much for linking up for Thematic Thursday this week, Arlene. Would it be possible to add the Thematic Thursday logo someone in the post and mention that you're linking up with me? I did not check the backlink required question in the linky tool, but I would appreciate it if you mentioned it so that your readers can find the other resources available too. I love all of the great ideas you've shared. It's a fantastic post, and I hope you'll come back next week for Bear week! Carla (PS...if you need the graphic, you can right click and copy it from my post). Have an awesome weekend!
