December Holiday Celebrations and Traditions Around the World Free Resources, Books, and Activities

Hard to believe that it's almost December! I've been so fortunate to have lived all over the U.S. and other countries and been part of their December celebrations. I've had a lot of fun putting together some great resources for you and a special December Holiday Celebrations and Traditions Around the World Thematic Unit.

For any unit about Holidays around the world, finding good books for your Read Alouds is important. I found a good list at Amazon which you can access by clicking on the picture below.
There are so many wonderful websites with lots of information for free resources and activities. You can find links to great resources and lessons at NEA  by clicking on the picture below.

Education World is another great website for free lesson plans and resources. Just click on the picture below to access some great resources. They also have lots of resources for Christmas Around the World that you can access by clicking HERE
I also found lots of great information about how countries around the world celebrate Christmas. Just click on the picture below.

I've finally finished and uploaded my own December Holiday Celebrations and Traditions Around the World unit. It starts with a fun "Where in the World is this" activity where students will look at pictures of different countries they will travel to and guess where they are. Then they will each get a folder and make a passport book with all the pages of countries they will travel to with country stamps, flags, and symbols of each country.
Then they will read about 8 different countries and write Subject poems about each one. Here are all the materials for each country.
Finally they will wrap up the unit with Informational and Opinion Piece Writing Prompts. There is also a fun activity where students will get into groups and design a travel poster about a country and write a persuasive speech about why you should travel to their country in December.
Just click on any of the images above or the one below to Download the preview file to see the Unit Daily planning guide and sample pages all the materials and activities in this packet.
I have a great freebie that I just uploaded. It's "December Holiday Celebrations and Traditions in Sweden" which you can add to my complete holiday unit. This one is not included in my complete unit.
Hope you will enjoy it! Just click on the picture below.

  4. Thanks, Arlene! I love doing customs from other countries as a unit for Christmas. The kids are always fascinated by other cultures and how they celebrate. Thanks for the Amazon link. It will be very helpful.
